Summer is here, and that means it’s prime camping season! Whether you’re pitching a tent for the first time or you practically live in your RV, there’s always something new to learn or remember when it comes to making the most of your camping experience. First-Time Camper Tips

Start Simple:
For your first camping trip, it’s best to start with a short excursion close to home. This will make sure you’re not exhausted from a long drive with the RV and that you have plenty of time to set up a tent before dark! Choose a campground with amenities like bathrooms and potable water to ease into the experience. All of our RV sites are full hookup with 30/50 amp electricity, water and sewer! For tent campers, our luxury bathhouse and convenient outdoor sinks are just steps away! -
Practice Setting Up:
Before you head out, practice setting up your tent or RV at home.Familiarizing yourself with your gear will save you time and frustration once you’re at the campsite. We also recommend practicing parking the RV! A large parking lot with empty areas like at a big box store is a great place to practice getting it in the lines. Backing your RV for the first time when you arrive at the park can be very frustrating.

Pack Light:
It’s easy to overpack. Stick to the essentials like a sleeping bag/bedding, portable stove, and basic cooking utensils. We also hear campers tend to overpack food. Our Ranger Station sells camping essentials, food and beverages, and ice! If you forgot anything, we’ve got you covered!

Check the Weather:
Mother Nature can be unpredictable, so always check the weather forecast before you go. Be prepared for rain or shine by packing appropriate clothing and gear. Did you know that you can purchase Rain Protection for your trip from Sensible Weather when booking online? They will provide you with reimbursement when some weather conditions impact your stay!

Practice Good Campground Etiquette:
Respect your fellow campers by practicing good campground etiquette. Keep noise levels to a minimum, follow posted speed limits, and be mindful of your surroundings. Remember, you’re sharing the campground with others, so be courteous and considerate at all times.

Upgrade Your Gear:
Invest in quality gear that will last for years to come. Upgrading your tent, RV mattress, or cooking equipment can greatly enhance your camping experience. A foam mattress topper is widely available in big box stores, and can dramatically improve the sleeping experience for both Tent and RV campers! -
Master Campfire Cooking:
Take your culinary skills to the great outdoors by mastering campfire cooking techniques. Invest in a cast-iron skillet and learn how to cook delicious meals over an open flame. You can’t go wrong with hot dogs on a stick, but have you ever wrapped them with crescent rolls first? How about a foil packet dinner full of steak and potatoes? Every campsite in our park comes with access to your own fire ring with grill grates, so burgers and corn 0n the cob is a great way to start!

Know Before You Go:
When you camp at Texas Wine Country, you can expect a packed calendar of fun! We have activities scheduled 7 days a week during the summer, and Fri-Sun ALL YEAR LONG! Each weekend of the year is themed, as well. Some themes encourage site decorating, or bringing items you might find at home. Checking the Jellystone Park™ App or our website before you leave home will make sure you don’t miss out! Having the Jellystone Park App on your phone before you arrive at camp is a highly recommended convenience! -
Embrace Outdoor Living:
While your RV may offer all the comforts of home, don’t forget to embrace outdoor living as well. Set up a campfire, enjoy meals al fresco, and take advantage of nearby hiking trails and scenic overlooks. After all, the great outdoors is why you chose RV camping in the first place! Have you wandered our creekside meadow or spent time sitting on the banks of Grape Creek as it runs along camp? We highly recommend local hiking around nearby Enchanted Rock State Park and Old Tunnel State Park!

As a seasoned camper, share your knowledge and expertise with others. Get to know the campers staying around you!
